3. The main charachter.

Mr. Heathcliff is the one of the main characters in this novel. We could see two different images of Heathcliff.
The first time we have seen his appearance at the very beginning of the story when he was brought to home by his foster-father.   He was some kind of a gipsy. Heathcliff was a dirty, ragged, black-haired child. He seemed a sullen, patient child; hardener, perhaps, to ill-treatment.
As we learnt, Heathcliff hated his appearance, he wanted to be a blond man with blue eyes.

But then, after his absence, he returned changed. He had grown a tall, athletic, well-formed man. Everyone was amazed of this transformation of him. And his behavior changed too. He became self-confident, independent and even more rude and callous.
So, Mr. Heathcliff turned from small, dirty, timorous and miserable child to strong, self-confident and handsome man.

  1. Heathcliff is considered to be an antihero, isn't it? But I had different feelings with regard to this character: sometimes I hated him but sometimes I was sorry for him. Ant in the end I justified him...What do you think about it? What did you feel?

  2. Of course he is. I have different feelings while reading: at the very beginning I sympathized him and he was an attractive person to me, but then I couldn't bear all his cruelty. He said later that ghost of Catherine haunted him, so he was so virulent. At the end I sympathize him. He had really hard lot.
